The New York Giants went just 6-11 in 2023, one year after surprising everyone when they made the postseason and even won a playoff game.

Pretty much everything went wrong for the Giants last season, with some inspired play by third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito representing the only bright spot of their campaign.

But will things get any better for New York heading into 2024?

The Giants have made some moves to improve the roster this offseason, such as adding star edge rusher Brian Burns and selecting wide receiver Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick in the NFL Draft.

However, Big Blue still has Daniel Jones under center, which is a major sticking point for many when assessing New York’s chances this coming season.

Here are three major questions for the Giants entering 2024.

Has the offensive line improved enough?

New York’s offensive line surrendered 85 sacks last season, which was, by far, the worst mark in the NFL.

The Giants tried to address the unit over the last several months, adding pieces like Jermaine Eluemunor and Jon Runyan Jr. in free agency. They are also hoping to get a fully healthy season out of left tackle Andrew Thomas, who missed seven games last season.

But has New York done enough to make it so that its offensive line is no longer Swiss cheese?

It remains to be seen.

Many pundits still don’t like the Giants’ offensive line much at all, ranking it toward the bottom of the NFL. It should certainly be better than it was in 2023, but that isn’t saying much.

If New York is terrible in the trenches again, it won’t matter who is playing quarterback for the team in 2024.

How good will the Giants’ defense be?

While the Giants’ defense showed some flashes in the back half of last season, New York still ranked just 27th in yards allowed and 26th in scoring defense.

However, the Giants added a significant piece in the aforementioned Burns, who will help comprise a suddenly fearsome trio that also includes Kayvon Thibodeaux and Dexter Lawrence up front.

The G-Men also have linebacker Bobby Okereke, who racked up 149 tackles in 2023 and probably should have been a Pro Bowler.

That’s a pretty nasty group of players in the front seven, and New York also has some impressive young pieces in the secondary like second-year cornerback Deonte Banks and rookie safety Tyler Nubin.

Is this unit going to be elite? Probably not, but it stands to reason that the Giants’ defense could be in the top half of the NFL in 2024, which is a major step up from where it was six months ago.

Can Daniel Jones and the offense score points?

The biggest concern everyone has about the Giants is how this offense is going to score points, especially after losing running back Saquon Barkley in free agency (and to the Philadelphia Eagles, no less).

New York signed Devin Singletary to combat the departure of Barkley, although while Singletary is a solid halfback, he is certainly not as explosive as Barkley.

The good news is that the Giants seem to have found a legitimate No. 1 receiver for the first time since Odell Beckham Jr., as Nabers projects to be a star on the NFL level. New York also has some other interesting pieces at wide out, such as Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt.

But most of the onus will fall on Jones, who is coming off of a torn ACL and was absolutely brutal in the six games he played in 2023.

The hope is that Jones will rediscover his 2022 form, where he actually played some solid football and led the Giants to a road playoff win.

Jones is entering the second year of a four-year, $160 million deal, but New York can get out of the contract after this season. So, this will be Jones’ last chance to show the organization that he has what it takes to be the team’s franchise quarterback.

With the addition of Nabers and an improved offensive line, perhaps Jones can summon the strength to put forth a decent 2024 campaign. It’s not like he hasn’t displayed potential in the past.
