5 Biggest Takeaways From NFL Week 2

With Week 2 of the 2024 season now nearly in the books, there have been some surprising results. Although most of the Week 2 games were quite competitive, we were treated to a couple of blowouts as well.

It is still early days, but a few teams who were expected to have strong starts now find themselves in a spot of bother. So, here we have five of the biggest takeaways from Week 2.

The Bills crush the Dolphins again

The Buffalo Bills’ domination of the Miami Dolphins continues with yet another win in their Week 2 game. Ever since Josh Allen took over as the Bills starter, he has an 11-2 record and is currently on a five-game winning streak against his division rivals.

This game, however, had less to do with Allen and more to do with Buffalo as a team. While QB1 was held to just 139 passing yards and one touchdown, James Cook and the Bills defense had a field day. Cook finished with 78 rushing yards on just 11 carries for an average of 7.1 yards per carry an two rushing touchdowns. He also had one reception of 17 yards which incidentally was another touchdown.

The defense forced three interceptions and got to the quarterback for two sacks as Buffalo came through with a comfortable win by a score of 31-10. At 2-0, the Bills are looking good to start the season.

The Panthers are outright terrible

Before the season began, there were some expectations that the Panthers may have improved even if it was just a bit. Those expectations are now crushed seeing that Carolina has suffered two heavy defeats in as many games.

The entire team is in shambles and second-year QB, Bryce Young has an uphill battle ahead of him. In two games, Young has only 245 passing yards, zero passing touchdowns, and three interceptions for an atrocious 44.1 passer rating.

Not only that but Carolina has been outscored 73-13 after just two games into the season. Young still looks uncomfortable under center, has literally no one to throw the ball to, and has been sacked six times in two games.

Whatever new head coach Dave Canales is doing is not working at least as of now and after a brutal 0-2 start, it looks like the Panthers are headed for the last-placed finish by the end of the season.

The Ravens are struggling

Last season’s AFC Championship losers, Baltimore Ravens are not looking like the same team to start the new season. Baltimore has fallen to a 0-2 record with a loss in Week 1 to Kansas City and another one in Week 2 to the Raiders. While the Week 1 loss is understandable, their result against Las Vegas was a complete shocker.

New addition, Derrick Henry did not look at his best despite finishing with 84 rushing yards and one touchdown and Lamar Jackson was also held to just 45 rushing yards.

With a tough stretch of games coming up against the Cowboys, Bills, and Bengals, Baltimore needs to find a way to win quickly otherwise they could fall to 0-5 or 1-4 by the end of Week 5.

The Saints are on a rampage

Week 1 for the Saints was a relatively easy game against the Panthers, but the Saints dominant victory surprised many. However, what is even more surprising is their Week 2 statement against the Dallas Cowboys after defeating them 44-19.

The Saints from two games have not put up 91 points on offense while giving away just 29 on defense. They now have two consecutive games of 44+ points with running back Alvin Kamara and quarterback Derek Carr looking good on offense.

Even though it’s been only two days, there is a general sense of feeling that the Saints’ struggles on offense from the previous season are behind them.

The Rams are in trouble

Two games into the 2024 season and the Los Angeles Rams are 0-2 with major health concerns. Being a top-heavy team, the Rams needed to stay healthy in order to have a chance at a deep playoff run. However, star wide receiver Puka Nacua is now feared to miss up to eight or nine games which is a big disaster for the Rams.

Moreover, they had a terrible game against their NFC West rivals, the Arizona Cardinals, losing 41-10. It seemed as if Arizona was having its way throughout the game and had nearly 500 yards worth of offense. Kyler Murray was 17/21 for 266 yards while the run game produced another 230 yards.

Los Angeles looks nothing like a playoff team at the moment and with their next game against the 49ers, it looks like they are on course for a 0-3 start.
