As we head into Week 4 of the NFL, we have been treated to some exciting performances thus far. The NFL MVP race which will culminate by the end of the regular season has shuffled around a bit from the previous week.

As per the Bet MGM MVP odds, Week 3 had Aaron Rodgers, Brock Purdy, and Joe Burrow all tied for the fifth place, however, all three of them have dropped out of the top five this week. Lamar Jackson is the new entrant on the list after a good display against the Ravens’ win over the Cowboys.

The five top NFL MVP candidates entering Week 4 are as follows:

5. Lamar Jackson – Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens faced the Dallas Cowboys in a crucial Week 3 game. A loss to Dallas would have put the Ravens at 0-3 to start the new season. However, Jackson and running back Derrick Henry led the Ravens to a big 28-6 lead by the start of the fourth quarter.

Although the reigning MVP threw only 15 passes in the game, he completed 12 of them for 182 yards and a touchdown. He did however add another 87 yards and a touchdown along the ground for a well-rounded game.

4. Jalen Hurts – Philadelphia Eagles

Jalen Hurts maintains his position at No. 4 once again this week following the Eagles’ somewhat dull affair against the New Orleans Saints. Twenty-four of the total 27 points of the game were scored in the last quarter with the Eagles taking the win 15-12.

Nevertheless, Hurts had a decent game which finished with 311 passing yards but with no touchdowns and one interception. The Eagles’ next game is against the Buccaneers and an improved showing from the 26-year-old will help him stay in the top five.

3. C.J. Stroud – Houston Texans

In Week 1 it looked like C.J. Stroud was continuing exactly where he left off in his rookie season. However, the past couple of weeks have been uncharacteristically different for the reigning Offensive Player of the Year winner.

While he could only help the Texans put up 19 points in a win against the Bears in Week 2, he had just one touchdown. The Week 3 game against the Vikings was one of the worst games he has played in his short career thus far as he completed 23 of 36 passes with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Stroud still holds the No. 3 position but if he doesn’t improve next week, he may slide further down the list.

2. Patrick Mahomes – Kansas City Chiefs

The Patrick Mahomes Chiefs fans have come to be familiar with is not the same Mahomes that has started the 2024 season. Similar to last year, Mahomes is struggling and his Week 3 performance against the Falcons was enough to move him down a spot in the rankings.

Against Atlanta, Mahomes threw for just 217 yards on 26 completions from 39 attempts and two touchdowns. However, he threw another interception to take his tally to four from just three games. He has also been struggling to involve tight end Travis Kelce in the game with a limited amount of targets going to his favorite target.

In spite of Mahomes performances, the Chiefs are still 3-0 which is why he is still a top contender in the MVP race.

1. Josh Allen – Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are also 3-0 to start this season and QB Josh Allen proved once again that he is still the future of the franchise despite losing multiple key players in the offseason. Allen and the Bills destroyed the Jaguars handing them a thumping of 47-10 in their Week 3 matchup.

Although Allen’s numbers in the first couple of games were nothing crazy, he did a great job of limiting his turnovers and helping the team secure wins. Against Jacksonville, though, Allen had 263 passing yards, 44 rushing yards, and four touchdowns and no interceptions as the Bills jumped out to a 34-3 lead at the half.
