Aaron Rodgers, Jets Given Brutal Assessment From NFL Analyst

There is some optimism about the New York Jets heading into the 2024 season. However, all of their potential success falls on the shoulders of quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Excitement filled the facility when the team acquired Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers last offseason. With a championship-caliber defense, the Jets felt they had finally addressed their need for a quarterback.

Unfortunately, four plays into their first offensive drive, those hopes were dashed. Aaron Rodgers suffered what would be a season-ending Achilles injury.

2023 was more of the same as it had been the last few years. Zach Wilson was reinserted as the starting quarterback and the results were disastrous.

New York had one of the worst offenses in recent history, unable to consistently move the ball. If their defense didn’t play spectacularly and pitch a shutout, their odds of winning were extremely low.

Heading into the 2024 season, Aaron Rodgers is set to be the starting quarterback. The backup quarterback issue was addressed with the addition of Tyrod Taylor.

However, doubling down and putting all of their eggs into the Aaron Rodgers basket is something Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report believes they will regret.

“Rodgers is 40 now, and he wasn’t a highly effective NFL quarterback in his last healthy season in 2022. He’s of course coming off a major injury to his Achilles, and it’s not a tremendously good sign that he’s missing offseason work with the team to travel

Getting rid of Rodgers this offseason wouldn’t have saved the Jets much money, if any at all. But they had a decent amount of draft capital, and that might have been an opportunity to swallow that financial hit and start fresh,” Gagnon wrote.

There was about a zero percent chance the Jets were going to throw the towel in on Aaron Rodgers this offseason. Unless he retired, he was their starting quarterback.

But, as Gagnon stated, the opportunity for some sort of reset was there. Alas, four snaps of the future Hall of Famer is not what owner Woody Johnson signed up for.

Instead of hedging for the future, the team has gone even further all-in this offseason. The Jets will be a team people keep a very close eye on, as Aaron Rodgers is a polarizing figure and there isn’t a team with a bigger boom or bust potential in the NFL.
