There was a lot of excitement surrounding Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson heading into the 2023 season. In some people’s eyes, he was the best prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft but played a position that wasn’t of need.
The Atlanta Falcons still pulled the trigger on him, selecting him eighth overall. As a rookie, Bijan Robinson consistently showcased the elite traits that he possesses.
He carried the ball 214 times for 976 yards and four touchdowns, adding 58 receptions for 487 yards and four more scores. With all of the tools and size to be a workhorse back, even bigger things are expected in 2024.
Life should be much easier for Bijan Robinson in Year 2 of his career. The Atlanta Falcons addressed their need at quarterback, signing veteran Kirk Cousins in free agency.
He is a huge upgrade over Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke, as teams won’t be able to load the box to stop the run. His production should be on the rise, which is partly why he has received such a lofty ranking from Dakota Randall of Pro Football Network.
Randall put together power rankings for each position group in the NFL. Among his running back peers, Bijan Robinson has been ranked No. 4 heading into 2024.
“Bijan Robinson didn’t set the world on fire during his rookie campaign, as running lanes were hard to come by in the Atlanta Falcons’ middling offense. Still, by the end of the season, it was easy to dream big about what Robinson might do in Year 2.
He finished 2023 with 976 rushing yards to go along with 58 catches for 487 yards. With Kirk Cousins now running the offense, expect those numbers to increase in 2024,” Randall said.
It is hard to not get excited about what this Atlanta Falcons offense could look like. They used top-10 picks on tight end Kyle Pitts, wide receiver Drake London and Bijan Robinson the last three seasons.
Given the inadequate quarterback play the team received, they haven’t been used to their full potential. That will change in 2024 with Cousins taking over as the starting quarterback.
Big things are expected from Bijan Robinson. Randall has him highly ranked, but some analysts believe he is the most talented running back in the NFL.
