Buccaneers Playmaker Earns Massive Recognition For 2024

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had a few players they could consistently rely on the last few seasons. One of those players has been wide receiver Chris Godwin.

Godwin has steadily produced for the Buccaneers despite rarely ever being in the spotlight. Mike Evans has been the team’s No. 1 receiver for a decade and he overlapped at one point with Antonio Brown and Rob Gronkowski.

Playing alongside some Hall of Fame talent is not something everyone’s ego can handle. But, it hasn’t been an issue for Godwin, who continues plugging away and producing at a solid clip.

It should come as no surprise then that an NFL analyst is highlighting what Godwin brings to the table. Over at The Athletic, a piece was put together selecting a non-quarterback MVP for every team in the NFL.

For Tampa Bay, there were several good options. Evans would have certainly been a strong candidate along with left tackle Tristan Wirfs.

On defense, Antoine Winfield Jr. certainly would garner attention. Alas, it was Godwin who Dan Pompei opted to select as the Buccaneers’ non-MVP quarterback.

“Mike Evans gets most of the attention, but Godwin remains one of football’s better receivers. He had more receptions than Evans in four of the last five seasons, including the last three.

The Bucs believe he will have more yards this year because they intend to use him more in the slot and less outside. At 28, Godwin is at the height of his abilities and he should be at the height of his desire — his contract is up after this season,” Pompei wrote.

Surpassing the 1,000-yard mark in four out of the last five seasons, Godwin is as consistent as it gets at wide receiver. He has set himself up for a nice payday in 2025 whether it be from the Buccaneers or another franchise.

28 in February, Godwin is just hitting his prime. He has plenty of solid years of production ahead of him, as he remains a productive boundary receiver even if the team plans to use him out of the slot more in 2024.

Should Godwin be the team’s non-quarterback MVP as Pompei has predicted, it could lead to him pricing him out of town. The selection of Jalen McMillan in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft could be insurance for the team should Godwin leave in free agency.
