The Cleveland Browns signed safety Grant Delpit to a three-year contract extension, and on Monday, general manager Andrew Berry expressed just how happy he was to retain Delpit for the long haul.

“When we began the season, our defensive staff set the goal of leading the NFL in three categories: Physical Toughness, Effort and — most importantly — Badassery,” Berry said in a statement, via Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. “Grant’s competitive, high-energy, on-field personality is the perfect embodiment of these characteristics. To see Grant blossom into a disruptive, heat-seeking missile in the run game while maintaining the ability to match-up in man coverage has been particularly rewarding for our organization because of the adversity that defined his early career.”

In 13 games this season, Delpit has logged 80 tackles, 1.5 sacks, an interception, a fumble recovery and three passes defended.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was selected by the Browns in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He missed his entire rookie campaign due to a torn Achilles, but he made his debut in 2021 and was impressive, finishing with 66 tackles, a sack, an interception, a forced fumble and three passes defended.

Then, last year, Delpit registered 105 tackles, four picks and 10 passes defended.

Delpit said that he is “excited” to continue his career in Cleveland.

The Browns are 8-5 this season mainly due to their dominant defense, which ranks No. 1 in the NFL in yards allowed. They are coming off of an impressive win over the Jacksonville Jaguars this past Sunday and will take on the Chicago Bears next weekend.

Following the Bears matchup, Cleveland will take on the Houston Texans, New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals to close out the regular season.
