Could This Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl Playmaker Ask For Trade?

The Miami Dolphins are loaded with talent on the offensive side of the football.

While they are most known for their dynamic receiving duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, the Dolphins also boast a pretty impressive backfield led by Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane.

But could Mostert aim to bolt South Beach in the near future?

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox thinks it’s a possibility.

Knox notes that Achane may be on his way to supplanting Mostert as Miami’s featured back and also mentions that the Dolphins selected University of Tennessee halfback Jaylen Wright in the fourth round of the NFL Draft.

All of this could spell the end of Mostert’s tenure in Miami.

Mostert is under contract through 2025, so it’s not like he can hit free agency next offseason. So, if the Pro Bowler is going to leave South Florida, it is going to have to come via trade.

Raheem Mostert has had an odd NFL career

Mostert entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2015 and bounced around quite a bit. As a matter of fact, the Dolphins briefly signed him in September of that year before waiving him the following month.

The 32-year-old did not begin to receive any serious playing time until 2019, which represented his third full season with the San Francisco 49ers. That season, Mostert rushed for 772 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging a robust 5.6 yards per carry.

Injuries then limited Mostert to just nine games combined in 2020 and 2021, and in 2022, he went on to sign with Miami.

The Purdue product enjoyed a solid campaign in his debut season with the Dolphins, totaling 891 yards and three scores on the ground while logging 4.9 yards per attempt. He also hauled in 31 receptions for 202 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

Then, this past year, Mostert broke out, racking up 1,012 yards and a league-leading 18 rushing scores. He posted 4.8 yards per tote and made his first Pro Bowl.

The problem for Mostert is that Achane also flashed considerable promise, rattling off 800 rushing yards and eight touchdowns while recording an insane 7.8 yards per carry in 11 games. With Achane being a decade younger than Mostert, Mostert’s time as Miami’s lead back may be coming to a close.
