Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb recently took to social media to announce he would not be addressing any questions regarding his ongoing contract negotiations during his youth football camps this week. However, his quarterback, Dak Prescott, had no qualms about discussing his top receiver during his Pro Camps football camp on Tuesday.

Prescott revealed that he has been working closely with Lamb this offseason, with plans for more work before the Cowboys’ training camp kicks off.

Despite Lamb skipping the team’s offseason program, including the mandatory minicamp—a decision that could potentially cost him over $100,000 in fines—Prescott remains optimistic.

“CeeDee’s going to be ready,” Prescott assured, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. “A player like that, an athlete like that, he makes my job easier. Trust me, we’ll be just fine.”

The primary concern now is the length of Lamb’s absence from the team.

Historically, the Cowboys have faced similar situations with other star players.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott and right guard Zack Martin both extended their holdouts into training camp in recent years, eventually securing favorable contracts before the season began.

Currently, Lamb is slated to earn $17.99 million this season under his fifth-year option and is eligible for the franchise tag in 2025.

However, Lamb is pushing for a contract that reflects his status as one of the NFL’s elite receivers. This offseason has seen significant extensions for other top receivers like Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson and Philadelphia’s A.J. Brown.

Despite more than a year of negotiations between Lamb’s agents and the Cowboys, the progress of these discussions remains unclear. What is evident, though, is Lamb’s importance for the Cowboys’ offense.

Lamb delivered an outstanding performance in the 2023 NFL season, recording 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns, setting new franchise records for both catches and receiving yards in a single season.

As the Dallas Cowboys’ first training camp practice in Oxnard, California, approaches on July 25, the team and its fans are left wondering when CeeDee Lamb will join them and what the future holds for their star receiver.

Thankfully, these comments from Dak Prescott provide a positive outlook.
