Dallas Cowboys Land Courtland Sutton In Shocking Trade Proposal

The Dallas Cowboys are in need of some receiving depth, as they don’t have a whole lot behind CeeDee Lamb at the position. Could Courtland Sutton represent a potential solution for them?

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport suggests that the Cowboys send a 2025 conditional Day 2 draft pick and a fifth-rounder to the Denver Broncos in exchange for Sutton and a sixth-rounder.

This would supply Dallas with a very solid No. 2 option behind Lamb and would move Brandin Cooks—who was disappointing last season—to third on the depth chart.

Suddenly, the Cowboys would have a fairly deep trio of wide outs, and the Broncos would recoup some value for Sutton, who has been the subject of trade speculation since last year.

But would Denver actually move Sutton?

The 28-year-old still has two years remaining on his deal and is coming off of a nice 2023 campaign in which he caught 59 passes for 772 yards and 10 touchdowns. Considering the Broncos just drafted Bo Nix to be their next quarterback, they may want to keep him around to serve as a weapon for the rookie.

Remember: Denver dealt fellow receiver Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns earlier this offseason, so you would think that the Broncos wouldn’t want to leave the cupboard completely bare for Nix.

Courtland Sutton Has Remained Reliable

There was a time when it looked like Sutton was ascending into the upper echelon of NFL wide receivers. In his second season back in 2019, he hauled in 72 receptions for 1,112 yards and six scores.

However, the following year, Sutton tore his ACL in Week 1, which essentially ended his chances of becoming a truly elite pass-catcher.

While the Southern Methodist product hasn’t been the same since, he has remained a reliable target and has actually been very durable, missing just three games over the last three seasons.

Sutton’s numbers have been very consistent. He snared 58 balls for 776 yards and a couple of touchdowns in 2021, and in 2022, he registered 64 catches for 829 yards while reaching the end zone twice.

Is Sutton a No. 1 receiver at this juncture? No, but he is someone that Denver can count on, and it will probably end up keeping him around at least until the trade deadline in October.

Courtland Sutton would definitely be a nice fit in Dallas, though.
