Dallas Cowboys Linked To Potential Trade For AFC Running Back

Every season, there is plenty of uncertainty surrounding the National Football League, but one thing is certain: the Dallas Cowboys love to run the football. Which is probably a reason why they are linked to one AFC South running back heading into the 2024 season.

There has been plenty of overturn in the Dallas organization over the last several months, but they are searching for their next solid workhorse running back to follow Ezekiel Elliott and ease the stress on Elliott throughout the season as well.

Ezekiel Elliott returns to the fold after a one-year stint with the New England Patriots, and he will look to be a solid contributor in the Cowboys backfield, but the truth is that he is likely not built for full-time carries.

Cap Troubles Could Limit Them

However, the Dallas Cowboys need to be mindful of one thing, and that is the fact that they have a very tight cap situation at the moment as they only have a couple million dollars to throw around coming into the season.

Although that is not enough money to completely alter the course of the franchise this season, they can add a few pieces, and that is certainly what Dallas will need to do if they want to remain competitive in an NFC East that continues to get better around them.

The NFC LEast No More

It’ll certainly take some key pieces to compete with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders after the offseason transformation they have gone through. Dallas against Washington this season will actually look quite familiar, as Washington hired Dallas defensive coordinator Dan Quinn as the new head coach. He took a couple key pieces of the Dallas defense along with him, which is something the Cowboys will need to adapt to as well.

Bolstering The Backfield

The guy that the Dallas Cowboys have been linked to late in the offseason is Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce. Bleacher Report suggested a potential trade for Pierce in a recent article.

A couple of years ago, he exploded on the scene, and he looked to become a legitimate option in the Houston Texans backfield during their rebuild. However, following an ankle injury against Dallas that cut his rookie year short, he has not been the same, and last season he was reduced to kickoff return duty for the majority of the year.

Devin Singletary took over the primary responsibility for Houston. A fresh start would be great for a guy like Pierce, and it would give the Dallas Cowboys a young running back to feed the majority of the carries, as they could have a potential three-headed monster, along with the previously mentioned Elliot, and Deuce Vaughn.

There is no guarantee that the Cowboys will even consider making a trade for Pierce, but the option would make sense.
