Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Has Chance To Break Huge Record In 2024

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is entering a contract year, so it would be the perfect time for him to set a major milestone.

Well, that’s exactly what Prescott has the chance to do in 2024.

If Prescott throws for 4,725 yards this coming season, he will end up passing Tony Romo as the Cowboys’ all-time passing yards leader (h/t Koby Skillern of Cowboys Country).

Prescott is currently third on the franchise’s all-time list behind Romo and Troy Aikman.

Of course, throwing for over 4,700 yards is no easy feat. Prescott has only achieved that once in his career, which came back in 2019 when he totaled 4,902 yards through the air.

Even this past season, when Prescott finished second in MVP voting, he registered 4,516 yards.

If Prescott goes into the season without a new deal, it would represent the most perfect time for the 30-year-old to accomplish this major Cowboys record, as it would give him another bargaining chip in negotiations with the club.

Will The Cowboys Pay Dak Prescott Before The Season?

Right now, contract talks between Prescott and the Cowboys have reached a standstill. Dallas has not seemed to many any progress and actually seems more focused on wide receiver CeeDee Lamb at the moment.

That doesn’t necessarily mean something won’t get done.

After all, there are still about three months left before the regular season begins, so there is plenty of time for the two sides to hammer out a deal.

That being said, there appears to be a significant gap between Prescott and the Cowboys right now, and it remains to be seen if they can make up that ground.

Prescott may have recently said that he doesn’t play for money, but the general consensus is that he is looking for a contract that will pay him in the neighborhood of $60 million annually.

Dallas clearly does not want to pay that, so it may end up allowing Prescott to hit free agency next offseason and then try to re-sign him on a cheaper deal.

Of course, that’s a risky proposition, unless the Cowboys are completely fine with potentially losing Prescott altogether.

Dak Prescott led the NFL with 36 passing touchdowns in 2023 and has been Dallas’ starting quarterback ever since replacing an injured Romo at the start of 2016. He has made three Pro Bowls.
