With the 2024 NFL season right around the corner, the Denver Broncos are going to be a very intriguing team to watch. Sean Payton and company are entering a bit of a cross between a rebuild and a re-tooling process. No one knows quite what to expect from them this year.
Russell Wilson is gone after a solid 2023 campaign. The team decided to part ways with him. To help replace him, the Broncos went out in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft and selected former Oregon star Bo Nix.
While Nix is gaining steam as the likely starter, the Broncos also have Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson on the roster. They acquired Wilson from the New York Jets in a trade prior to the NFL Draft.
Despite quite a bit of offseason roster movement, the Broncos may not be done. They are a team that seems likely to continue working the phones in attempts to make another trade.
Denver Broncos Are Likely Team To Pull Off Trade Before 2024 Season
According to ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, the Broncos have been named as the AFC team most likely to still be trying to make a trade prior to the regular season.
“The Broncos are on a roster roller-coaster. After trading away years of draft capital to acquire quarterback Russell Wilson and coach Sean Payton and going on an offseason spending spree last year, the team’s decision to move on from Wilson and start over with rookie Bo Nix leaves it in a difficult bind. Like the empty nesters who sold their house and downsized, the Broncos have too much stuff.”
One potential trade candidate that could be available in Denver is wide receiver Courtland Sutton. He and the Broncos have been talking about a potential new contract, but nothing has come from those talks.
Should the Broncos decide that they want to add pieces in order to contend in the AFC, they have assets that could help them make those moves happen as well.
Looking at the roster, Denver does have enough talent to compete. If Payton can get the most out of his roster, they could be a potential sleeper playoff contender. That will also depend on the quarterback play.
All of that being said, it will be interesting to see how the Broncos fare to start the season. It will also be intriguing to see who the starting quarterback will be.
Expect to see the Broncos continue to stay active. They are likely still open to making major moves. Barnwell certainly could see them making a trade before the season.
