The Denver Broncos have named Bo Nix their starting quarterback for the 2024 NFL season, per an announcement from the team.

This does not come as much of a surprise for multiple reasons.

First of all, Nix is 24 years old and was viewed by some as the most NFL-ready quarterback in the draft. He ended up being the sixth and final signal-caller taken in the first round, but he may end up having the most early success of all of them.

Second, it’s not like the Broncos had any other great options.

Denver’s other two competitors for the starting job were Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson, neither of whom have shown a whole lot of promise on the professional level. Wilson is a former No. 2 overall pick, but he is coming off of a disastrous three-year stretch with the New York Jets.

Head coach Sean Payton has also clearly been impressed with Nix throughout training camp and preseason, so he has opted to roll with his rookie as the Broncos’ starting quarterback.

What should we expect from Broncos QB Bo Nix?

Nix isn’t exactly stepping into an enviable situation, as Denver may ultimately be one of the worst teams in the NFL this coming season.

However, it’s not like the Broncos are bereft of weapons.

Denver has Courtland Sutton as its No. 1 receiver, and it signed former Detroit Lions wide out Josh Reynolds in free agency. Plus, the Broncos have a couple of intriguing young receivers in Marvin Mims Jr. and rookie fourth-round pick Troy Franklin, and it appears that Tim Patrick is healthy and ready to go.

It’s not exactly the Houston Texans receiving corps, but it’s still decent enough for a rookie quarterback.

Nix is coming off of a brilliant final collegiate season at Oregon, when he threw for 4,508 yards, 45 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 77.4 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 234 yards and six scores.

Some have questioned whether or not Nix’s style will translate into the NFL, and others have casted doubt upon his numbers due to the fact that he played in a good not great Pac-12 conference.

That being said, it’s abundantly clear that Nix has talent, and he could very well end up being the best quarterback from his draft class.

We’ll see if Bo Nix can live up to the hype starting in September.
