Did Carolina Panthers Rookie Take a Veiled Shot At Bryce Young?

Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young is going through the worst week of his young NFL career. Following his benching this week, analysts and fans have taken turns trying to identify what led the team to this moment. However, one of his teammates knows what he was frustrated with.

Speaking to reporters in a video posted by reporter Sheena Quick on Twitter/X, rookie wide receiver Xavier Legette admitted some frustration with his lack of targets.

Of course, usually when there aren’t targets going a wide receiver’s way, there can only be two or three culprits depending on who you ask.

One culprit is the head coach or the playcaller. The second culprit is the wide receiver if they cannot get open. The third culprit is the quarterback.

As such, the video didn’t indicate which one Legette believed was at fault, but the conversation appeared to be geared around the quarterback situation. As such, Legette appeared to be referencing Young.

In a follow-up question, he was asked about what he wanted to work on with his new quarterback, Andy Dalton. He said the deep ball was something he felt he was good at. Ergo, his comments indicate frustration that he wasn’t getting targets and he wasn’t connecting deep. Putting two and two together, it appeared to be a shot at Young’s deep accuracy and a hope that Dalton could be better.

Carolina Panthers hoping to snap ugly losing streak since before Christmas

If it feels like it has been a while since the Panthers won a game, that is because it has been nearly a year.

The Panthers have kicked off the 2024 season getting outscored 73-13 over their first two games. Their most recent win was a 9-6 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Dec. 17.

To snap the streak, the Panthers aim to upset the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3, who just upset the defending AFC North champion Baltimore Ravens. Of course, while this goal is on the mind, the bigger picture is still taking shape at quarterback.

Put simply, the Panthers could hope that Bryce Young gets the reset he needs sitting behind a veteran quarterback. Then, later this year or in 2025, he’ll get one last shot. On the other hand, this could be the first step toward trading the signal-caller.

At this point, the Carolina Panthers might just be hoping to figure out which way is up.
