The Green Bay Packers have evidently done it again, as Jordan Love seems to be the next great quarterback. The Packers have their own system for developing quarterbacks.

When Green Bay selected Aaron Rodgers in the first round in 2005, they had him sit behind Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre for three seasons before taking over as the starter.

The Packers continued this system, drafting Jordan Love in the first round in 2020 and having him sit three seasons behind Rodgers.

This developmental strategy helped Love have an impressive season in his first year as a starter.

Love got off to a rough start but finished the season strong, as the 9-8 Packers made it to the playoffs. Love broke out in the playoffs, leading to an upset victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round.

Green Bay nearly upset the NFC favorite San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round but fell short.

Still, it was an impressive season for Love and the Packers, who had the youngest roster in the NFL. Love has established himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the league.

Strong praise for Love

Love’s play has led to praise from former NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum on “The Dan Patrick Show.”

Tannenbaum made a bold claim, stating: “If we were drafting NFL players, I think you and I would agree that we’d take Patrick Mahomes no. 1, but I’m taking Jordan Love no. 2… Who would you take before Jordan Love in terms of youth, ability and I think his future limitless.”

This is high praise for Love and is a testament to the potential he showed in his first season as a starter. The 25-year-old completed 64.2 percent of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Love also contributed to the rushing attack with 247 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Love’s talent was on full display in the Packers’ postseason victory over the Cowboys. In that game, Love had a passer rating of 157.2, completing 76.2 percent of his passes for 272 yards and three touchdowns.

While many would argue that after Mahomes, quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and CJ Stroud deserve to be over Love, it proves he’s in the elite quarterback conversation.

Packers fans should feel hopeful about the 2024 season. Love looks like he is the next great quarterback in Green Bay and will lead them to many competitive seasons.
