Former Eagles Star Sends Caution Message To Jalen Hurts

The reputation of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has taken a rather significant hit over the last year thanks to the Eagles’ second-half collapse in 2023.

The problem is, Hurts isn’t doing a whole lot to rebuild his image. At least not in terms of what he says when he speaks to the media.

Hurts recently gave some strange answers when asked about Nick Sirianni hiring Kellen Moore to be the team’s new offensive coordinator, and legendary Eagles defensive lineman Hugh Douglas isn’t exactly liking the signal-caller’s demeanor.

“This is not good for the team,” Douglas said on 94WIP. “This is not good for Jalen Hurts as a quarterback. The one thing you don’t want to be in your young career is to be considered a malcontent. Not saying he’s there yet, but Jalen needs to make this relationship work for the betterment of us trying to get to the Super Bowl.”

What Did Jalen Hurts Say Exactly?

When asked about Sirianni’s decision to bring Moore aboard, Hurts didn’t exactly provide a ringing endorsement.

“I mean, that’s a great question, I don’t know that I know the answer to it,” Hurts said, via Ed Kracz of Eagles Today.

Hurts was then asked about what he has seen from Sirianni thus far this offseason, and he once again gave a pretty puzzling answer.

“I think he’s just been great in…umm…the messages he’s delivering to the team,” Hurts said. “He’s trying to be very intentional what he’s saying…yeah.”

Douglas has seen enough.

“He needs to get in lockstep with it because at the end of the day, if Jalen is not in lockstep, guess who is not gonna be here if he’s out there beefing with the head coach? Him,” Douglas said.

Hurts finished second in MVP voting in 2022 but took a considerable step back last season, throwing 23 touchdowns while turning the ball over 20 times.

On top of that, there were rumblings that Hurts’ teammates were not exactly in love with his attitude throughout Philadelphia’s miserable second-half stretch.

The Eagles started 10-1 in 2023, but ended up losing five of their last six regular-season games to finish 11-6. They were then routed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

We’ll see if Jalen Hurts can recover this autumn.
