Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence became eligible for a contract extension this offseason, and many are wondering just how much Lawrence will get paid.

Lawrence had a rather rough 2023 campaign, which has put his long-term financial value into question.

However, the 24-year-old is not letting any of that affect him as he prepares for the season.

“Obviously, I’m aware of what’s going on, but I try to keep my focus on doing my job out here,” Lawrence told reporters, via Eric Edholm of NFL.com. “I have full belief that that’ll take care of itself and that’s not something I need to worry about.”

That doesn’t mean Lawrence is oblivious to the fact that he is up for a new deal, but he understands that it isn’t necessarily his job to worry about those things.

“That’s why I pay people and hire people to do that for me. That’s not my job,” Lawrence said. “But obviously, I know what’s going on. I’m aware of the situation — I think that’s important, too — but I try to keep all my focus and energy on being the best player I can be to help us win.”

Currently, Joe Burrow is the highest-paid player in football, making $55 million annually. We’ll see if Lawrence approaches that mark in negotiations.

Trevor Lawrence Struggled This Past Season

Following a breakout 2022 campaign in which Lawrence appeared to justify his No. 1 overall selection from 2021, the Jaguars signal-caller labored this past year.

In 15 games, Lawrence threw for 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while completing 65.6 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 88.5. He did deal with some injuries late in the season, but he wasn’t playing particularly well even before getting hurt.

That came after Lawrence finished with 4,113 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight picks while completing 66.3 percent of his throws and registering a 95.2 passer rating in his sophomore campaign. That year, he led Jacksonville to an AFC South division title and also guided the Jags to a Wild Card Round playoff win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

But since the Clemson product entered the NFL three years ago, that has really been his only impressive season. He totaled 12 touchdowns and tossed a league-worst 17 interceptions in his rookie season.

We’ll see if the Jaguars can get something done with Trevor Lawrence before the 2024 campaign begins. Remember: he still has two years left on his deal.
