The Kansas City Chiefs are on top of the football world, and that has been the case for the previous two seasons. Now they look to win a third consecutive championship this upcoming season, and they have made some necessary signings to get the job done.

They already have a roster that is stacked with talent from edge to edge on both sides of the football, and they would only getting better if they can convince a former two-time all-pro player to join the team. After trading away L’Jarius Sneed over the off-season, many people are wondering if Kansas City will bring in another top-tier defensive back to play alongside Trent McDuffie.

Stephon Gilmore To The Kansas City Chiefs?

If that is the case, many people are calling for Kansas City to take a look at Stephon Gilmore for this upcoming season.

NFL analyst Marus Mosher believes that Kansas City is the best possible fit for the former Dallas Cowboys star.

He was quoted saying, “Gilmore was rock solid for the Dallas Cowboys last season, starting all 17 games,” he would also add. “While he isn’t the same athlete he was coming out of South Carolina, he is still an incredibly savvy player who can play on the outside and in the slot.”

He would go on to say that “teams needing a one-year rental at cornerback should be thrilled to sign Gilmore.” Noting that the loss of Sneed is something that will loom large for Kansas City this upcoming season if other players are unable to step up and fill the void left by Sneed.

Although Gilmore wasn’t otherworldly last season, he still has the production to justify a starting spot with a team like Kansas City, and he would be an immediate upgrade to role players like Jaylen Watson and Joshua Williams in the short term.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see if Kansas City decides to pull the trigger on a potential acquisition of Gilmore or if they will go into the season trusting Watson and Williams to play in the defensive backfield.

Cap Space Available

Unlike multiple other teams in the NFL right now, Kansas City is a team that does have the cap space to make the move work if they want to bring in an upgrade for their secondary. They have just over $17 million to play around with during this upcoming season, which gives Kansas City a massive advantage during the upcoming season as they search for a third consecutive Super Bowl victory.

Adding a game-changing player like Gilmore could only further put some distance between them and the other teams in the AFC, as well as whoever they happen to meet in the Super Bowl.
