Going into last season, many expected big things from Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Skyy Moore given the fact that the Chiefs were very thin at the position.
Instead, Moore was a massive disappointment, catching just 21 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown.
Now, people are calling for the Chiefs to part ways with him.
Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport thinks that it may be time for Kansas City to consider trading Moore, especially after signing Marquise Brown in free agency and then selecting Xavier Worthy in the first round of the NFL Draft in April.
Davenport also isn’t necessarily buying general manager Brett Veach’s comments on Moore from earlier this offseason, where Veach said that Moore just needs to get healthy in order to produce.
Skyy Moore Is No Tyreek Hill
When the Chiefs selected Moore in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, some felt he would be a replacement for Tyreek Hill, who Kansas City had traded a month prior.
Moore was fast, he was shifty and he was said to have fantastic hands.
Well, needless to say, he has certainly not been able to fill Hill’s shoes.
The 23-year-old played in 16 games during his rookie campaign, but logged only 22 catches for 250 yards, which was an almost identical stat-line to his second season.
Outside of Rashee Rice, the Chiefs had incredibly limited depth at wide out in 2023. Even with that, Moore was unable to crack the rotation and represent a consistent outlet for Patrick Mahomes.
Based on Kansas City’s decisions this offseason, it seems like the club is essentially giving up on Moore, at least in terms of him being a critical part of the offense.
Would Moore be worth anything in a trade? Perhaps the Chiefs could extract a sixth or seventh-round draft pick from some team in exchange for him. He is still young, and he does have talent. But there probably wouldn’t be too much interest in him. If there was, Kansas City probably would have already moved him.
The Chiefs are coming off of back-to-back Super Bowl championships and are looking to become the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a row.
They will open up their 2024 regular season by hosting the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, Sept. 5.
