Chiefs Urged To Make Blockbuster Trade For This Star Receiver

Many people feel the Kansas City Chiefs have a good chance of winning their third straight Super Bowl championship this coming season, but that doesn’t mean it will be easy for them.

The competition, especially in the AFC, has gotten better, and the Chiefs do have some real question marks once again at the wide receiver position. They do not have a true proven star at that spot, and Rashee Rice, their most promising young wideout, is facing several serious legal charges as a result of a car crash he was involved in a few months ago.

Making a big splash on the trade market could not only make the Chiefs firm favorites to win it all this season but also potentially allow them to extend their dynasty for a while.

Thus, Thomas Valentine of Pro Football Focus suggested they go after Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals.

“The Bengals might not be too content with the idea of trading Tee Higgins to a Super Bowl-contending rival, especially when those rivals are the reigning Super Bowl champions, but a long-term contract doesn’t appear to be on the horizon for Higgins,” wrote Valentine. “Rather than let him walk, the Bengals could look to move him for future draft picks.

“The Chiefs should throw themselves into the sweepstakes. Travis Kelce might not have too many years left in the tank, and Higgins would give Mahomes a legitimate X receiver.”

Tee Higgins would be lethal on the Chiefs

Higgins has been the Bengals’ WR2 behind Ja’Marr Chase for the last few years. In his four pro seasons, he has gone over the 1,000-yard mark twice, and although he appeared in just 12 games in 2023, he still managed to catch 42 passes for 656 yards and five touchdowns.

At age 25, he’s the type of player who could be a member of the Chiefs for years to come if they were to pull the trigger for him.

Cincinnati needs to give extensions to both Chase and Higgins soon. It recently handed out a five-year, $275 million extension to star quarterback Joe Burrow, and it may not be able to afford to pay both Chase and Higgins what they demand.

Cincinnati is the only AFC team to defeat the Chiefs in the playoffs over the last five years. It did so in the 2021 conference championship game, and in that contest, Higgins had six receptions for 103 yards, leading both everyone on both teams in the latter category.
