The Washington Commanders made several major additions during the 2024 NFL offseason. Under new management from ownership down through the front office and coaching staff, a new era is upon us in Washington.

General manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn have their work cut out for them. The Commanders have finished in last place in the NFC East the last two seasons and have made the playoffs only once in the last eight seasons.

That playoff appearance was fluky, as they went 7-9 and still won the division. 2016 was the last time they had a winning record and the 2005 season was the last time a playoff game was won.

Turning things around will take some time, but the Commanders made some solid additions this offseason that will speed things up. One of those additions was signing veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner.

The 34-year-old star remains one of the most productive players in the league despite his age. Heading into his 13th season in the NFL, Wagner recently received some major praise.

Over at The 33rd Team, Jeff Diamond put together a list of the 20 best players who are over 30 years old heading into the season. Wagner came in at No. 12 on the list, but most importantly, was the third-highest-ranked defender.

“After being drafted in the 2012 second round by Seattle, he played there 10 years, then spent one season with the Rams before returning to the Seahawks last season.

His production has never wavered yet with their coaching change from Pete Carroll to Mike Macdonald, the Seahawks deemed Wagner expendable even after he was selected to the Pro Bowl for the ninth time and gained his tenth All-Pro honor (named to the Second-team in 2023).

So he signed with Washington where he’ll surely continue to play at the level we’re accustomed to seeing from this future Hall of Famer,” Diamond wrote.

His game has shown zero signs of decline, as he led the NFL with 183 tackles playing for the Seattle Seahawks last season. He will play a key role in Quinn’s defensive scheme as a leader at the heart of the defense.

The future Hall of Famer is as consistent as it gets at the linebacker position. He has recorded 100+ tackles in all 12 seasons of his career, earning nine trips to the Pro Bowl and being on an All-Pro team six times.
