One of the big moves that the New York Giants made this offseason was acquiring pass rusher Brian Burns from the Carolina Panthers. It is one of the moves that will be featured in Hard Knocks: Offseason, which Big Blue is being featured in.

The Hard Knocks series is expanding once again in 2024. In addition to the traditional training camp series that has been on for two decades, the show is expanding to now show the offseason ventures of a franchise.

This year, that franchise will be the New York Giants. There is a lot that went on this offseason, including the departure of running back Saquon Barkley to the Philadelphia Eagles.

That is one of the events of the 2024 NFL offseason that was previewed in the trailer for the show that will air on July 2nd. However, it is the preview of the Brian Burns trade that has caught people’s attention.

In the trailer, Giants’ general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll are discussing a potential move to acquire the Florida State product. In the clip, Schoen reveals what he believes it will take to land him.

“What about Brian Burns, have you looked at Brian Burns? We would have to trade, like, two twos, and then you’d have to pay him, $28-$29 million,” Schoen told Daboll. (H/T ProFootballTalk)

The contract projection was spot on. After being acquired, Brian Burns agreed to a five-year, $141 million contract that pays $28.2 million annually. But, it was the draft compensation that he was off on.

Schoen thought it would take at least two second-round picks to get the job done. Instead, the New York Giants sent a second and fifth-round pick to the Panthers and they also swapped fifth-round picks.

That deal was considered a major win for the Giants by many people. Not only because Schoen got his man for less than he anticipated, but because of previous offers made.

Reports surfaced that Carolina reportedly turned down an offer from the Los Angeles Rams in 2022 that included two first-round picks and a second-round pick for Brian Burns. The New York Giants got him for a fraction of that price to pair with Kayvon Thibodeaux off the edge.
