New York Giants Could Trade From This Position Group

The New York Giants have a few positions on their roster that could use some help. Expect general manager Joe Schoen to be active on the waiver wire looking to fortify those spots with players who get cut when rosters are pared down.

Expect the Giants to be on the prowl for some help in the secondary. They are very young at both cornerback and safety, relying on a lot of rookies or youngsters who haven’t had a chance to prove themselves yet.

Linebacker could also use some reinforcements, as the only positional group on the defense that looks to be set is in the trenches. Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence and Kayvon Thibodeaux is in the mix as the best defensive line trio in the NFL.

On offense, things look to be more set in stone. The Giants aren’t going to find a difference-making quarterback at this stage, as the bottom of the depth chart might be churned at the offensive line if an upgrade shakes loose.

One position the New York Giants could look to make a move is at wide receiver. But, in the opinion of Josh Edwards of CBS Sports, it will be to try and bring back some assets as the team just has too many players to keep at the moment.

“The foursome of Malik NabersWan’Dale RobinsonJalin Hyatt and Darius Slayton are capable of making an impact, if healthy. Options behind those players go deeper though. New York, additionally, has veterans Miles BoykinAllen Robinson II and Isaiah McKenzie, as well as young talents Isaiah Hodgins and Bryce Ford-Wheaton. If a team covets a young player with some upside or a veteran who can provide stability to a role, then general manager Joe Schoen may field some calls ahead of the deadline,” Edwards wrote.

Nabers, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is locked into a prominent role. It is likely Robinson has one also, with Hyatt and Slayton battling for the job on the perimeter opposite Nabers.

Boykin is a key piece of the team’s special teams units, so he is likely a lock for the roster. McKenzie has been the primary return man with Gunner Olszewski sidelined with an injury. With backup running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. also battling an injury in the preseason, McKenzie’s spot looks relatively safe as well.

That likely leaves Robinson, Hodgins and Ford-Wheaton battling it out for a spot that may not exist. Keeping seven wide receivers would be an unprecedented move by the Giants, especially when some of those players don’t offer anything as special teams contributors
