The New York Giants are heading into Year 3 of the Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll era. The general manager and head coach are good at their jobs. What they accomplished in Year 1 was extremely impressive, getting this roster to the playoffs.

But, Year 2 was a disaster, which has some people believing they are somewhat on the hot seat. Still cleaning up some of the mess from the previous regime, the 2024 campaign will be all about the quarterback position.

Once and for all, the Giants need to figure out if Daniel Jones is their guy. After signing a four-year, $160 million deal last offseason, he had an abysmal campaign, struggling with injuries and ineffectiveness when he was on the field.

This offseason, Schoen explored the quarterback market, seeing if there were possibilities to move up in the draft. Nothing transpired, which means Jones is back as the starter for another season with Drew Lock as his backup and Tommy DeVito as the No. 3.

Already showing they are on the lookout, an intriguing option could become available during the season. Former first-round pick Mac Jones of the Jacksonville Jaguars will be a popular name ahead of the deadline for any franchise looking at quarterbacks.

He flamed out with the New England Patriots but looked great during the preseason with the Jaguars. He is locked in as the No. 2 behind Trevor Lawrence, a very important spot as we saw in 2023 how many teams had their seasons derailed by poor quarterback play.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has Jones ranked as the No. 8 player on his trade big board heading into Week 1. New York could emerge as a suitor in his opinion.

“The Jaguars might not expect a massive haul for the 25-year-old since he’s entering the final year of his rookie contract, but desperation could lead to a team offering up a Day 2 draft selection or a capable player for him…

The New York Giants might be willing to take a flier on Jones if Daniel Jones flops in what is possibly his last audition to be the team’s long-term starter,” Knox wrote.

In theory, the Giants make a lot of sense as a suitor as they could be looking high and low for quarterback help. But, how much of an upgrade would the Alabama product be for them?

If things go south, they are better off saving their assets and having Lock or DeVito play out the string. Then, they can put all of their eggs into the 2025 NFL Draft and attempt to land one of the top quarterback prospects there.
