New York Giants Rookie Pushing For Prominent Role Offensively

The New York Giants offense is going to look a lot different in 2024 than it has in years past. That is because the front office made a concerted effort to upgrade the supporting cast around quarterback Daniel Jones.

The offensive line will be much improved with Carmen Bricillo taking over as coach from Bobby Johnson. Jermaine Eluemunor and Jon Runyan Jr. were signed in free agency to upgrade the unit.

In the trenches is where the New York Giants need improvement for the offense to get on track. However, the weapons needed upgrading as well.

The player people are most excited to see is wide receiver Malik Nabers. The No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of LSU has been turning heads during offseason workouts with his skills.

But, it turns out that he isn’t the only rookie who has been garnering attention this spring. Running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. out of Purdue is also making a positive impression.

According to Art Stapleton of North Jersey in the USA Today network, via SleeperNFL on X, the Purdue product has already been taking reps with the starters. Stapleton added Tracy is making a push to be the team’s passing down back out of the gate.

It should come as no surprise that he is pushing for a role in the passing offense already. A fifth-round pick, Tracy converted to running back during his college career from wide receiver.

In his time with Iowa and Purdue, he carried the ball 146 times for 947 yards and 10 touchdowns. He added 113 receptions for 1,201 yards and five more scores.

An explosive athlete, the New York Giants should be looking for ways to get him on the field early and often. A huge hole was left in terms of offensive production with Saquon Barkley leaving in free agency, signing with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Add to that the retirement of tight end Darren Waller, and Big Blue is lacking established weapons. Darius Slayton is the most experienced wide receiver, while free agent signing Devin Singletary should handle the starting backfield duties.

Beyond Nabers likely being one of the starting wide receivers, things are up for grabs in the New York Giants’ offense. If Tracy can continue performing when pads come on during training camp, Brian Daboll will find ways to get the ball into his hands.
