In a recent 2024 NFL Mock Draft from Pro Football Focus, the New York Jets addressed their offensive line.
It has not been an easy season for the Jets’ offensive line in 2023. Coming into the season, the line wasn’t expected to be out of this world, but the unit was projected to be pretty solid under the assumption that Mekhi Becton was able to stay healthy.
For the Jets, Becton has been able to stay healthy so far this season, but he’s pretty much the only one who has been able to stay on the field. The unit has been decimated by injuries this season, and their depth has been tested.
Partially due to the injuries, the Jets offensive line has been graded as one of the worst in the league this season, and as the team prepares for the NFL Draft, addressing the line will be a top priority.
In the recent Pro Football Focus Mock Draft, they had the Jets addressing the offensive line by selecting Taliese Fuaga from Oregon State. Fuaga is emerging as one of the best offensive linemen in the draft, as at 6’6” and nearly 350 pounds, he is a great run blocker. However, he is improving in his pass protection as well and looks like a solid prospect.
Getting a tackle makes sense for the Jets, as with the franchise hoping that Aaron Rodgers will be back next season, they will need to protect their veteran quarterback. As we have seen this year, depth on the offensive line is really important, and Fuaga would ideally be a starter for the Jets right off the bat. Also, Alijah Vera-Tucker recovering from an Achilles injury, it will be hard to predict when he will be back next season.
As the Jets continue to move up in the standings, their projected draft position will likely continue to change. However, as of now, Fuaga would be a great addition to the offensive line.
