After being benched in favor of Tim Boyle in Week 13, Zach Wilson was re-inserted into the New York Jets‘ starting lineup this past Sunday, and the result was a big performance from the quarterback and a stunning blowout win over the Houston Texans.

Wilson was brilliant in the victory, going 27-for-36 with 301 yards and a couple of touchdowns. He lost one fumble, but that paled in comparison due to the rest of his outing.

Afterward, Jets head coach Robert Saleh raved about Wilson.

“His best game as a professional,” Saleh said, via Jack Bell of the Jets’ official team website. “He made things happen. I thought he was outstanding today.”

It’s hard to argue with Saleh’s assessment.

While Wilson doesn’t exactly have a smorgasbord of great games to choose from, there is no doubting that the youngster was incredibly impressive in the face of extreme adversity against the Texans. Not only was he re-taking the field a week after being benched, but he was also just reportedly told by New York that he would be traded this offseason.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at BYU, was selected by the Jets with the second overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Since entering the league, Wilson has struggled mightily, going just 12-20 as a starter and totaling 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.

He entered 2023 as Aaron Rodgers’ backup, but Rodgers ended up tearing his Achilles in Week 1, pressing Wilson back into a starting role.

Zach Wilson has thrown for 2,245 yards, eight touchdowns and seven picks this season.

The Jets improved to 5-8 and snapped a five-game losing streak with their Week 14 win. They will take on the Miami Dolphins next weekend.
