Jets’ Haason Reddick Fires Back At Critics Amid Contract Dispute

The New York Jets acquired edge rusher Haason Reddick in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this offseason and were thrilled to have him in the fold.

The problem is, Reddick hasn’t shown up yet.

The Jets opened their mandatory minicamp this week, and Reddick has not yet arrived due to a contract standoff with the club. Reddick has just one year remaining on his deal.

Connor Hughes of SNY has reported that New York and Reddick had an understanding at the time of the trade that the Jets would not be giving Reddick an extension. But either that’s not true, or Reddick is deciding to hold out regardless.

Either way, Reddick is tired of all of the rumors about his absence and has taken to social media to set the record straight. Well, sort of.

What Is Haason Reddick Really Saying Here?

Chances are, Reddick is referring to the report that he knew ahead of time that New York wasn’t extending him, but he isn’t exactly being clear with his message here.

What narratives are “crazy?” Is it not true that the Jets told Reddick at the time of acquiring him that they wouldn’t be giving him a new deal?

Obviously, Reddick can’t be too specific or he might get himself into some trouble, but his rather vague tweet about the situation doesn’t exactly do much to sway one’s opinion.

Reddick seemed very excited to join the Jets. During his introductory press conference, he wasted no time telling everyone how dangerous Gang Green is going to be this coming season. That’s what makes his no-show at minicamp all the more peculiar.

The issue for Reddick is that he doesn’t have a whole lot of leverage here. He is slated to be a free agent next March, so he isn’t going to sit out 2024. Especially not with him turning 30 years old in September. Eventually, he is going to have to show up to camp, but he may try and drag this out as long as he possibly can.

The superstar pass rusher has accumulated 50.5 sacks over the last four seasons, including a 16-sack campaign with the Eagles in 2022.

This past year, Haason Reddick totaled 38 tackles and 11 sacks.
