The New York Jets made a head coach change following poor results early in the season.

Despite having one of the best NFL quarterbacks of the generation and a stout defense, the New York Jets have disappointed so far this season. They’re 2-3 and are coming off two straight bad losses.

On Tuesday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Jets have moved on from fourth-year head coach Robert Saleh.

In his four seasons with New York, Saleh posted a 20-36 record, losing double-digit games in his three full seasons with the club. It makes sense for the Jets to move on. With Aaron Rodgers being 40-years-old, the franchise needs to maximize their window with him under center.

Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will be the team’s interim head coach while the franchise finds the best path forward.

3 potential replacements for Saleh

Ulbrich, who has been the defensive coordinator for a very stout unit, could earn the job in the short term. It’ll take plenty for him to get rid of the interim tag, though. Not many interim head coaches pan out when taking over their current club.

Another intriguing option is former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrable, who would bring a jolt of energy and culture to the club. He went 54-45 in his six years with the Titans.

Many expected him to have a job as a head coach by now, though that hasn’t been the case. The Jets’ opening provides a perfect opportunity to do so.

Potentially a shot in the dark, having former AFC East head coach — and one of the best of all time — Bill Belichick. The legendary New England Patriots head coach has won six Super Bowls. In 29 years, he’s won 467 contests.

Fans react to Jets firing Saleh

There was lots of chatter on X after the news broke Robert Saleh had been fired.

A third fan responded: “WOW! Who will Aaron Rodgers pick to replace him?”

And another critiqued of Saleh, “Guy just needs to stick to being a defensive coordinator”

“Belichick on the phone??”, another asked, while another mean spirited fan wrote: “Give Nate Hackett another chance man.”

Another fan wrote: “It’s about time he was obviously the problem with all the talent he has”
