When the Chicago Bears selected Caleb Williams with the first pick in April’s NFL Draft, the dream for the franchise was to lock down their superstar under center for the next decade-plus.
With the Bears’ roster built to be successful next season, a lot of the hope rests on how Williams looks at the NFL level. Some people are taking a wait-and-see approach to the rookie, but not Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright.
While speaking on “First Things First,” Wright discussed how he believes Williams can surpass Jordan Love and Jared Goff as the best quarterback in the NFC North.
“Caleb Williams can absolutely be the best QB in the NFC North. … This idea that rookie QBs don’t succeed immediately is somewhat anachronistic.”
The former Heisman Trophy winner showcased his talents throughout his time on the collegiate level.
During last season with the USC Trojans, Williams finished going 266-of-388 (68.6 percent) for 3,633 yards and 30 passing touchdowns to five interceptions.
It definitely was a bold statement on Wright’s part to say he can surpass Goff and Love, but time will tell.
What should people expect out of Caleb Williams in his rookie season?
Williams is coming in with the most hype for a rookie quarterback since Trevor Lawrence came into the NFL in 2021. However, the offense is not one of a team that had the first-overall pick.
The team was able to get this selection from their trade with the Carolina Panthers last year, giving up the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, the Bears have an incredible amount of talent in the skill positions to give Williams an easy time adjusting to the league.
Williams has playmakers out wide with DJ Moore, Keenan Allen and rookie Rome Odunze while also having tight end Cole Kmet and running back D’Andre Swift.
Williams is currently the favorite (+135) to win Offensive Rookie of the Year and is +6000 to win Offensive Player of the Year, according to DraftKings.
Filling the shoes of Justin Fields, Williams has higher upside. His issues in college came with pressure in his face, but the Bears have a decent offensive line so it will be intriguing to see how Chicago’s offense looks in 2024 and beyond.
