The Detroit Lions are one of the best teams not only in the NFC, but the entire NFL. They proved it last season when they advanced to the NFC Championship Game and will be looking to cement their status as contenders in 2024.

If the team can find improvements on the defensive side of the ball, it will go a long way to them remaining at the top of the NFL. But, even if there are some struggles, they at least can fall back on a stellar offense.

Detroit can keep up with anyone when it comes to putting points up on the scoreboard. Jared Goff has been excellent leading the offense since being acquired in the Matthew Stafford blockbuster.

He has built up incredible chemistry with Amon-Ra St. Brown, who was rewarded this offseason with a massive contract after tearing up the league his first three seasons. But, there is a void in the passing game behind him.

The Lions lost Josh Reynolds in the offseason and didn’t bring in a veteran to replace him. They are hopeful that former first-round pick Jameson Williams can grow into the No. 2 role behind St. Brown.

There are several executives and front office personnel around the league who believe that will happen. Over at ESPN, Jeremy Fowler spoke to NFL executives, asking how things will turn out this season in the award races.

Selected as the breakout player of the year is the Alabama product.

“He’s in a great offense, and Amon-Ra (St. Brown) isn’t a secret anymore, so [Williams] should get one-on-one looks,” an AFC executive said. “He can absolutely fly and is an ideal deep threat for Jared Goff. He looks like himself again, too.”

With defenses paying so much attention to St. Brown, Williams should have the opportunity to produce at a high level. Opponents are going to have trouble committing extra personnel to the passing game as well because of how willing and productive Detroit is running the ball.

A great quarterback and no pressure on being ‘the guy’ is a recipe for success. Williams has a chance to showcase why the Detroit Lions traded up and selected him as No. 12 despite the injury he suffered during the College Football Playoff.
