George Pickens is the most talented receiver on the Pittsburgh Steelers and it is little wonder he is wanted elsewhere.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are 4-1 for the season, yet their offense is yet to click.
It is testament to their incredible defense that the Steelers are 4-1, because they have only scored more than 20 points in one game all season.
The Steelers’ most recent game was a 20-17 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys, where talented wide receiver Pickens caught just three targets for 26 yards.
49ers wanted George Pickens
While George Pickens did pick up 113 receiving yards in the week four win over the Colts, Pickens is yet to catch a touchdown through the first five weeks.
This has led to questions over what is going wrong for Pickens, whether he is happy, and even whether he could be traded.
NFL expert Jay Glazer has shut this talk down, insisting that the Steelers were approached over a Pickens trade in the summer and immediately dismissed it.
Glazer told the LeBatard Show that the San Francisco 49ers were the team who made contact over Pickens.
He explained: “Pickens is their guy, he’s the number one guy on their team.
“I will tell you this, when we were hearing Brandon Aiyuk trades and the 49ers were looking for another receiver, they brought up George Pickens and the Steelers were like ‘no shot, absolutely no, we’re not even going there’.”
The 49ers ended up extending Aiyuk after an agreement was reached, while no suitable trade partner was found either.
He did go on to warn that it is up to Mike Tomlin’s coaching staff to bring more out of Pickens, adding: “George Pickens is very very talented, like a lot of receivers you’ve got to make sure you handle them in the right way.”
Quarterback change could happen in Pittsburgh
Justin Fields has been quarterbacking the Steelers this season and while he has put up solid fantasy football numbers with his running, the team are not scoring enough points.
It is worth noting that Russell Wilson is making good progress with his recovery from injury, with the Super Bowl winning QB pictured in full training for the first time this season.
Fields is expected to start week six against the Raiders, and may get until the week nine bye.
But if production does not pick up, and Pickens still remains scoreless, the calls for a switch to Wilson will intensify.
