Philadelphia Eagles’ A.J. Brown Doesn’t Hold Back On New Offensive Addition

The Philadelphia Eagles swung a trade with the Washington Commanders to acquire wide receiver Jahan Dotson last week, and A.J. Brown is excited to see what Dotson can bring to the table.

“He has a big opportunity in front of him,” Brown said, via Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia. “I’m not going to put too much on his plate but he does.”

Brown specifically thinks that Dotson may find himself open due to all of the attention that Brown and DeVonta Smith attract from opposing defenses.

“I can tell you guys when I line up, they’re yelling out, ’11 in the slot, 11 outside,'” Brown said of himself. “Most of the time, I’m getting coverage rotated to me, most importantly. Smitty has his 1-on-1 matchups. I don’t know how they do with Smitty, so I can only speak for myself, but I know they’re accounting for Smitty as well. When you look up, I’m not going to say you’re not really worried about [Dotson], but they’re probably not going to put their best guy over there.”

Brown makes a salient point.

In Brown and Smith, the Eagles boast one of the best receiving duos in football. However, they have lacked a legitimate No. 3. Now, they may have it in Dotson, and with secondaries paying so much attention to Brown and Smith, Dotson could end up making a significant impact.

How good will the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense be in 2024?

From a weapons perspective, few teams can match the Eagles.

Not only do they have the receiving triumvirate of Brown, Smith and Dotson, but they boast one of the game’s better tight ends in Dallas Goedert. Plus, they signed running back Saquon Barkley in free agency.

Much of Philadelphia’s offensive success will depend on how quarterback Jalen Hurts bounces back from what was a rather pedestrian 2023 campaign, at least as far as throwing the football.

It should be noted that the Eagles did lose center Jason Kelce to retirement, and that could absolutely have a profound effect on the offense.

The hope is that Philadelphia’s raw talent exceeds the impact from the loss of Kelce, and adding Dotson into the mix should make that even easier.

Dotson is a former first-round pick, but was pretty disappointing over his first two seasons with the Commanders. Last year, he caught 49 passes for 518 yards and four touchdowns.

We’ll see if A.J. Brown and Co. can help Dotson became a more dynamic playmaker now that he is with the Philadelphia Eagles.
