Philadelphia Eagles Emerging As Best Fit For Interesting Wide Receiver

The Philadelphia Eagles boast one of the NFL’s best wide receiver tandems in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but they could use some depth behind them.

The Eagles signed DeVante Parker in free agency, but he abruptly retired. They also added Parris Campbell, but injuries have limited him to a grand total of 44 games across five seasons.

As you can see, Philadelphia could certainly stand to add a No. 3 receiver.

That’s why Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team feels that free agent Hunter Renfrow would be a great addition for the club.

Hunter Renfrow Has Been a Forgotten Man

There was a time where it looked like Renfrow was about to establish himself as one of the most prolific receivers in football.

Back in 2021 with the Las Vegas Raiders, Renfrow hauled in 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Obviously, the yards per catch weren’t great, but Renfrow’s sure-handedness and great route running ability were major selling points, and he looked to be on the verge of becoming one of the league’s most dependable slot receivers.

It wasn’t like he came out of nowhere, either.

The Clemson product, who was selected by the Raiders in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, caught 49 passes for 605 yards and four touchdowns during his rookie campaign. The following season, he snared 56 balls for 656 yards and a couple of scores.

So, even before his breakout 2021 season, Renfrow was productive.

But then, in 2022, injuries limited the 28-year-old to just 10 games, and he registered 36 catches for 330 yards while reaching the end zone twice.

This past year, Renfrow was barely even part of the rotation, logging 25 grabs for 255 yards.

Renfrow remains available in free agency, which is somewhat peculiar given that he has displayed he can be a productive wide out in the past.

Of course, he may no longer be the same player he was a few years ago, but a team like the Eagles could definitely use his presence in their receiving corps.

What’s the worst that could happen?

Renfrow represents a classic low-risk, potentially high-reward signing, and he would absolutely help further open the field for Brown and Smith so long as he is healthy.
