Eagles’ Offensive Star Makes Bold Statement After Rough 2023

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off of a disastrous 2023 campaign that certainly didn’t start out that way.

The Eagles were 10-1 last season and looked primed to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl for the second straight year. They even seemed poised to exact vengeance on the Kansas City Chiefs, who they defeated at Arrowhead Stadium over the course of their first 11 games in 2023.

But then, something happened. Something rather unexplainable.

Philadelphia lost five of its last six regular-season games to finish 11-6, making Philly the first club in NFL history to not win 12 games after winning 10 of its first 11.

The Eagles ended up losing the NFC East division title to the Dallas Cowboys and were then hammered by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round.

Philadelphia has made some major adjustments this offseason, bringing in new coordinators, signing running back Saquon Barkley and overhauling its ailing secondary in the NFL Draft.

But in spite of doing all of those things, offensive tackle Lane Johnson knows the Eagles actually have to go out and do it on the field.

Lane Johnson knows what has to be done

“We have a lot of new faces, a lot of turnover,” Johnson said on The Insiders, via Bobby Kownack of NFL.com. “But [I] felt comfortable with the way we drafted. Got some great players. And really when you look at our roster, we have a lot of size. Obviously we have to go prove things and are eager to do so. But when you just look at the guys walking around the building, we’ve got size, we’ve got speed, and guys willing to work.”

As for what happened last season? Johnson isn’t too sure, but he is happy that 2024 is on the horizon.

“Every year’s different,” Johnson said.. “I wish I had the answers to why the second half of the season went the way it did. It was something that went by so fast, and I know after it wasn’t a problem. But [I’m] looking forward obviously to this new offense under Kellen Moore. Going to be some things changed up for us up front. Excited, man, 12th year. Crazy how fast it goes by.”

Johnson is preparing to enter his 12th NFL season. He was selected by Philadelphia with the fourth overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft and has established himself as one of the best tackles in football since.

The 34-year-old has made five trips to the Pro Bowl while also earning a couple of First-Team All-Pro selections.
