The Denver Broncos 2023 season looks to be spiraling down the drain. A loss to the New York Jets in Week 5 dropped their record to 1-4 and it is hard to see them getting things back on track.
They face off against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football in Week 6 before facing them again in Week 8 ahead of their bye. A game against the Green Bay Packers is sandwiched in between, as the Broncos are staring down a 2-6 start, at best, ahead of the trade deadline.
With such a grim outlook facing them, it sounds as if Denver is going to accept the harsh reality facing them; it is time to become sellers. It is something that head coach Sean Payton has been unwilling to admit, but based on recent reports, that is the direction the organization is going to be heading in.
Per Matt Lombardo of Fan Buzz, the Broncos are expected to trade wide receiver Jerry Jeudy ahead of the October 31st trade deadline. According to Lombardo, “One high-ranking NFC personnel director says that his team has already “held internal discussions” about a possible deal for Jeudy.”
Jeudy, the No. 15 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has seen his name in trade rumors for months. He was involved in a ton of rumors this offseason as the Broncos considered moving on from him or fellow wide receiver, Courtland Sutton.
It is anyone’s guess which NFC team has engaged the Broncos in trade talks, but a few stick out. The Carolina Panthers are in the market for a wide receiver upgrade and the New York Giants were connected to Juedy over the summer. However, with a combined one-win between them, it is hard to envision either Carolina or New York surrendering assets.
The Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions could also make sense. Dallas needs more help behind CeeDee Lamb and Detroit may want to upgrade behind Amon-Ra St. Brown alongside Jameson Williams. The San Francisco 49ers are a team to watch in the opinion of one AFC South scouting director.
“The 49ers being in on Jerry Jeudy wouldn’t surprise me,” the scouting director told FanBuzz. “Because they’re in on everyone.”
It sounds as if the Broncos will have a robust market to sift through for Jeudy. While the first-round pick they were reportedly seeking in the offseason is probably too steep, an early Day 2 pick seems within reason, especially if a bidding war ensues.
