49ers’ George Kittle Doesn’t Hold Back On QB Brock Purdy

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle has surely developed a strong bond with quarterback Brock Purdy over the last couple of seasons, so it’s no surprise that he esteems him highly.

While discussing Purdy over the weekend, Kittle had nothing but good things to say about his signal-caller and said that Purdy has been pretty fiery this offseason.

“He looks like the guy, which is really nice,” Kittle said, via Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area. “He’s in the building every day and is the same guy every single day, consistent. He’s incredibly competitive. It’s fun seeing him yell at guys when they don’t hit their route depth or have the wrong landmark.”

Purdy appears to be a reserved guy, so to hear that he is apparently getting on his teammates for making mistakes is certainly surprising. It’s good news, though.

Kittle added that while Kyle Shanahan calls the plays, it’s Purdy who is really in control.

“He’s taking control of the offense and making it his,” Kittle said. “It’s Kyle’s, and Kyle is calling the plays, but Brock is getting guys to do what he wants them to do, which is really fun to see.”

What can we expect from Brock Purdy in his second full season?

The 2023 campaign was Purdy’s first full season as the 49ers’ starting quarterback, and he put forth a very impressive showing.

The 24-year-old threw for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 69.4 percent of his passes and posting a league-high passer rating of 113. Purdy finished fourth in NFL MVP voting for his efforts, and, most importantly, he led San Francisco to a Super Bowl appearance.

In spite of everything Purdy accomplished last year, he still heard plenty of criticism from fans, media pundits and ex-players, with many labeling him a “game manager” and a “system quarterback.”

Purdy has taken the chastisement in stride and has obviously channeled it positively. Plus, if Purdy really is a game manager, the Niners certainly won’t take issue with him managing the team with those statistics.

The question is, what can we expect from the Iowa State product in his second full season under center?

It’s looking like Purdy is taking things very seriously heading into 2024, and with the 49ers returning largely the same roster from this past year, he should enjoy another terrific campaign.

Purdy still has a lot of doubters to silence, and he may very well do that this fall.

Who knows? Maybe a Super Bowl ring will be in store for Brock Purdy come next February.
