San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy becomes eligible for a contract extension next offseason, and defensive end Nick Bosa is not worried the money will change him.
“I think he’s definitely getting a little more vocal within the building,” Bosa said, via Grant Cohn of All 49ers. “I don’t think he’s ever going to change. I don’t think he’s somebody who’s going to change even when he gets paid next year. He’s a man of faith. He kind of reminds me of Scottie Scheffler except he hasn’t gotten arrested. Just super humble and a really good kid. And he’s definitely famous.”
Brock Purdy Has Been More Than Just a Pleasant Surprise
Purdy has had an incredible ride since entering the NFL.
The Iowa State product was selected by the 49ers with the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft and entered his rookie campaign third on San Francisco’s depth chart.
However, Purdy was pressed into starting duty after season-ending injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo.
In nine appearances and five starts in his debut campaign, Purdy threw for 1,374 yards, 13 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 69.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 107.3. He even led the Niners all the way to the NFC Championship Game, but injured his elbow after just four passes.
The 24-year-old underwent elbow surgery to repair the issue, and in spite of not having a full offseason to repair for his sophomore season, he still managed to total 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 picks while completing 69.4 percent of his throws and registering a league-high 113 passer rating. Purdy made the Pro Bowl and finished fourth in MVP voting for his efforts.
Most importantly, Purdy led the 49ers all the way to the Super Bowl, where they ultimately fell to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime.
In spite of everything he has achieved in such a short span, Purdy has heard his fair share of criticisms. He has been labeled a game manager by some. Others have accused him of merely being a product of Kyle Shanahan’s system.
Whatever the case may be, there is no doubt that Purdy has made the most of his opportunity thus far and is setting himself up for a nice pay day next offseason.
The 49ers are favored by oddsmakers to win the Super Bowl this coming season. If Brock Purdy leads them to a championship, his price will certainly increase.
