49ers Urged To Target Trade For Vikings’ Cornerback

The San Francisco 49ers are 5-0 heading into Week 6, and coming off a 42-10 destruction of the Dallas Cowboys, they’re looking like the best football team in the world.

While they may have the best roster in the NFL and the most complete roster anyone has seen in recent memory, it isn’t perfect, and there may be one or two areas they should look to shore up before the Oct. 31 trade deadline.

One of those positions of need is cornerback. While the Niners are tops in points allowed, they’re 12 in passing yards allowed, and they have looked somewhat vulnerable when teams attack the field vertically against them.

They could stand to improve at the cornerback spot, and there could be a few intriguing corners that will be available on the trade market as the end of the month approaches.

Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report feels San Francisco should go after Andrew Booth Jr. of the Minnesota Vikings.

“Andrew Booth Jr. is an interesting trade target to add depth,” wrote Ballentine. “He was a second-round pick in 2022, but he missed all but six games of his rookie season with a torn meniscus. This season, he hasn’t worked himself back into the rotation.

“The struggling Vikings seem to be happy with Booth working as a deep bench player. He’s only logged four defensive snaps and 47 special teams reps this season.”

Booth was a second-round pick in last year’s draft and has played sparingly so far in his NFL career. While he may not be a game-changer for the 49ers, Ballentine feels he would be worth taking a flyer on.

Prior to last season, they acquired corner Charvarius Ward, thinking he would be an impact player for them. While the former Kansas City Chief has had his moments, he might have been a bit underwhelming while in San Francisco.

If the Niners are going to win their first Super Bowl since the 1994 season, they will have to get past teams such as the Chiefs, Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins, all of whom have Pro Bowl-level wide receivers. An upgrade in the secondary would go a long way in boosting their chances of cradling the Vince Lombardi Trophy this winter.
