The Texas Longhorns are soaring after a commanding win against the defending national champions, the Michigan Wolverines, on their home turf in Ann Arbor.

In their 31-12 triumph, Texas looked leagues ahead of Michigan. While this might reflect more on Michigan’s struggles, there’s no denying the Longhorns made a statement with their dominant performance.

Coming into this season, many believed Texas had the potential to compete for a national title, and so far, they’re proving those predictions right.

Former Alabama quarterback and current ESPN analyst Greg McElroy even suggested that Steve Sarkisian’s squad is on the same level as Kirby Smart’s powerhouse Georgia program.

“Texas has officially joined Georgia as one of the most complete teams in the sport. They look like a complete team, fast, physical, well coached, excellent in situations that would kind of showcase just how well coached they are. Poised, physical, I mean, you name it. If there is a positive attribute to apply to a team from this past weekend, Texas should likely get it.”

He continued on, boldly stating that he believes Texas could pull off a national championship win.

“If you think this Texas team can’t win the whole thing, I think you’re crazy.”

That’s quite a bold comparison, especially from someone who knows what it takes to win championships.

Comparing any program to Georgia, which has claimed two national titles in recent years, is significant. Even though the Bulldogs didn’t make the College Football Playoff last season, their back-to-back titles put them in elite company.

Outside of Nick Saban’s Alabama and Dabo Swinney’s successful run with Clemson, few teams have been as dominant as Georgia in recent memory, making McElroy’s comparison particularly noteworthy.
