Why Cardinals QB Kyler Murray Could Be Fantasy Sleeper In 2024

With training camp just about two weeks away, Fantasy Football drafts will start ramping up. One team that could provide managers with a surprising amount of value in 2024 is the Arizona Cardinals and quarterback Kyler Murray.

Last season, the first under head coach Jonathan Gannon, it was a struggle at times. The team was competitive, but not winning very much early in the season.

Between Joshua Dobbs and Clayton Tune starting, the Cardinals went 1-8. But with Kyler Murray in the mix, the team was 3-5.

That still extrapolates to a losing record over a 17-game sample size, but the team was heading in the right direction. Another year removed from his ACL injury and with a full offseason to knock off rust, big things could be on the horizon.

Over at Pro Football Network, Jason Katz has selected Kyler Murray as one of his quarterback sleepers in Fantasy Football for 2024. Ranked as QB7, he may not be a prototypical sleeper, but he qualifies as someone who has the tools to outperform their current draft position.

“There are several fantasy quarterbacks who look like pretty good options this season. That includes the next two guys on this list, both of whom go much later than Murray. The difference is those guys don’t possess overall QB1 upside. Murray does.

Have we forgotten just who Murray is? In his career, he’s never averaged fewer than 18.2 fantasy points per game. Over his first four seasons, he finished as the QB11, QB3, QB4, and QB7, respectively,” Katz wrote.

A big reason that Katz is so high on Kyler Murray heading into 2024 is his rushing ability. Right off the bat in his return from a knee injury, he was showcasing his rushing skill.

In his first two games back, he rushed for 33 and 51 yards. Katz is betting on seeing more production like that now that he is presumably healthier and with more confidence in his knee.

Not to mention, he also has some excellent weapons around him. Marvin Harrison Jr. has all of the tools to be a dominant No. 1 receiver. Trey McBride is one of the best young tight ends in the NFL.

Leading the Cardinals’ backfield is veteran James Conner. He has been excellent when healthy the last few seasons and will ensure this doesn’t turn into a one-dimensional offense as it did at times under the previous regime.
